Enrolled patients were aged 15 years or more, attending primary care clinics for conditions not related to metabolic bone disease, not taking medications known to affect bone metabolism and who were suspected to have vitamin D deficiency based on a quantified history of sun exposure, dietary intake and musculoskeletal symptoms.
He is also chief of the metabolic bone disease service and medical director of the Osteoporosis Prevention Center at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
