As "Dying to Live" concludes its final chapter, "The Anteroom," Midgley explains that he is in the process of experiencing motor neuron disease, a deterioration of the nerve fibers that help convey signals from the spinal cord and brain to the rest of the body. Stanley Sadie, 74, editor of Grove music dictionary, died March 21, 2005, at his home in Cossington, England, of motor neuron disease, his family said. ALS (also referred to as Motor Neuron Disease (MND), Charcot's disease or Lou Gehrig's disease) is a progressive and fatal neurological disease that affects 100,000 -120,000 people worldwide with about 1,200 new cases occurring in the UK each year. |
