In the practice of courts, a brief interval during which all business is suspended without an adjournment. A recess in legislative practice is an interval of time between sessions of the same continuous body, as opposed to the period between the final adjournment of one legislative body and the convening of another at the next regular session. recess n. a break in a trial or other court proceedings or a legislative session until a date and time certain. | The Post story reported that "shortly before recessing late Friday, the House and Senate gave the Bush administration leeway to distribute the money to a combination of projects--not just the physical barrier along the southern border. In addition, both of the pod drives have the advantage of reducing boat draft through their use of smaller diameter contra-rotating props and in the case of the Zeus, recessing the props into partial hull tunnels.
