According to the Religion News Service, the decision was announced May 18 by the country's reconvened parliament following prolonged pro-democracy protest rallies and has been welcomed by several religious leaders. A week after a small business coalition reconvened to begin protesting the increasing cost of doing business in California, the group conducted its first political action. While President Clinton was expected to veto the bill, the issue was to have been resolved when Congress reconvened in September for final federal budget negotiations. |
