SAMPLE, contracts. A small quantity of any commodity or merchandise, exhibited as a specimen of a larger quantity called the bulk. (q.v.)
     2. When a sale is made by sample, and it afterwards turns out that the bulk does not correspond with it, the purchaser is not, in general, bound to take the property on a compensation being made to him for the difference. 1 Campb. The technician collected a sample adjacent to, but not overlapping, the area reportedly sampled by the subject.
It is difficult because the population tends to be highly variable, requiring a larger sample to drive the sampling variability to anywhere near 10 percent and it is expensive and intrusive to make a determination about the qualifying activity for each sampled project or employee, making it costly to achieve large samples.
After a patient in Connecticut died from inhalational anthrax on November 19, the center was sampled again on November 21 and 25 by using dry and wet swabs.
