The Government brought legal charges against the editor under Article 125 of the Criminal Law which states "whoever by any means publicly abuses or insults any of the religions, their rites or beliefs or sanctifications or seeks to excite feelings of contempt and disrespect against the believers thereof, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or with fine or with whipping which may not exceed forty lashes.
