a stake in the ownership of a company. Shares maybe ordinary shares or preference shares. Ordinary shares confer an entitlement by way of dividend to those profits appropriated to the payment of a dividend after payment of dividend on preference shares. On a winding up, ordinary shareholders are entitled to what remains after payment of creditors and preference shareholders.
