Another common cause of male infertility is varicocele, in which the veins wrapped around the spermatic cord are numerous and dilate too much, increasing temperature in the scrotum and reducing fertility. It is at this region that the abdominal muscles meet the groin, and, in males, where the spermatic cord exits to enter the scrotum. In a new study of about 200 boys ages 10 to 14, more than a quarter of those who played soccer for 10 or more hours a week had a varicocele - a varicose vein around one of the two spermatic cords, which sperm travel through from the testicles. |
