During his visit, the minister met Kieran Hall, managing director of stevedoring firm Denholm Handling and chair of the Mersey Dock Rating Group, and Tony Woolrich, managing director of North West Trading, another stevedore firm.
The $40 million project will create 165 auto-processing jobs and more than 140 jobs related to stevedoring, warehousing and associated activities.
The 836th executed its single port management and stevedoring services to discharge the 174-foot long LCU-2000 and 74-foot long LCM-8 Class landing crafts, as well as large and small tug boats and parts of a modular causeway system.
