Many (indeed, I think all) of the virtues that we are aretaically obligated to cultivate are constituted by dispositions to supererogate and to do so for its own sake--to go beyond the call of deontic duty so as to do deeds to which others have no deontic rights.
While aretaic duties to cultivate virtuous character traits may de facto require supererogatory actions, they do not (typically) require one to supererogate on any given occasion towards any given person.
