I hate to nitpick one of my favorite columnists, but I think Maureen Dowd's being galled by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's tieless attire at the United Nations suggests she was not distinguishing the sizzle from the steak. Where Art Worlds Meet: Multiple Modernities and the Global Salon" felt crowded with some four hundred attendees (of whom about thirty were speakers): Biennale officials in dark suits, artists in black jeans, curators in funky furs, historians and critics in scarves or tieless button-downs (apart from one notable exception in Prada taffeta). He was dressed in a tieless long-sleeved white shirt frayed at the collar and cuffs and a pair of shapeless black pants without a belt that were more a rusty brown than black. |
