London is leading the upturn in prices, however, with 95% of surveyors reporting rises rather than falls in the city - the highest figure since December 1996.
By contrast, slightly counteracting the upturn in prices for intermediate goods, the index for materials and components for construction moved down more than it had in August.
Firms expect profits to remain under pressure during the coming three months as a result of a further rise in costs, although manufacturers in some regions expect this to be partially offset by an upturn in prices.
