| That sanguine vision is shared by Weiss and Manfredi, a husband-and-wife team from New York who won a 1989 competition to design a four-acre site that forms the end of a visual axis tying the Lincoln Memorial to the cemetery and, above it, the mansion of Robert E. This effect, barely perceptible at a normal-viewing distance, is produced by placing two Cibachrome transparencies not more than a couple of centimeters apart to create a disturbance of the visual axis, a change in the torso we are looking at. |
