The sampling criteria in the third phase of sampling in this study involved obtaining a volunteer sample of consumers with disabilities who had received VR services from a participating CRP and achieved an employment outcome. What is obvious, however, is that if the research knowledge gained on the basis of recruiting undergraduate volunteer samples is to reflect the experiences and views of male and female participants equally, greater efforts must be made to encourage men to volunteer in our studies. The authors describe the sample in the title and text as community-dwelling older adults, but the lack of information about the volunteer sample from which the subjects were chosen, how many were excluded, and characteristics of those excluded further limits an understanding of how representative the sample is of community-dwelling older people. |
