What was supposed to be a bankable star vehicle for Jagger at the height of his fame came out as a brain-melting head trip, in which a reclusive rock star named Turner (Jagger) takes a fugitive thug (James Fox) into his Notting Hill mansion, weirds him out with drugs, aided by his two female companions, and somehow steals his identity. I just simply told her I love her to death, but it weirds me out to be touched. Film fans will dig the many homages to the great 1960s Westerns of Sam Peckinpah and Sergio Leone, but well before its brutal, soul-annihilating climax, ``The Proposition'' just weirds out, like something that's been left in the desert sun too long. |
