As a serious complication of many diagnoses, circulatory shock is important when evaluating a patient for transfer from a medical-surgical unit to an HLOC.
The aims of our study were to use the L/P ratio to assess the contribution of hypoxic and nonhypoxic causes to hyperlactataemia in patients with different shock states and to evaluate the evolution of lactate and the L/P ratio over time in patients with circulatory shock.
The authors explain that circulatory shock is a life-threatening emergency that results in death in approximately 50 percent of all patients.
