cloud on title (cloud)

n. an actual or apparent outstanding claim on the title to real property. "Clouds" can include an old mortgage or deed of trust with no recording showing the secured debt was paid off, a failure to properly transfer all interests in the real property (such as mineral rights) to a former owner, a previous deed which was improperly written or signed, an unresolved legal debt or levy by a creditor or a taxing authority, or some other doubtful link in the chain of title. Often the "cloud" can be removed by a quiet title action, by finding a person to create or execute a document to prove a debt had been paid or corrected. Title companies will refuse to insure title to be transferred with a "cloud," or they will insure ownership except for ("insure around") the "cloud." (See: chain of title, quiet title action, mortgage, deed of trust, reconveyance, title, title report)

During low solar activity, these particles easily reach Earth, causing heavy cloud formation and making the planet's temperature drop.
These molecules also combine with salts and chemicals in the SSAs, limiting their ability to take up water--known as hygroscopicity--and influencing their atmospheric impacts, such as cloud formation and radiation scattering.
When warm air rising from the sun-heated ground hits this thick layer of warm smoke, the air spreads out and convection -- the mixing and circulation of layers of air that encourages cloud formation -- is thwarted.
This season we have seen good cloud formation in the lower levels, but invariably it is pushed down by a high pressure layer above 25,000 feet.

Atmospheric scientists have developed simple, physics-based equations that address some of the limitations of current methods for representing cloud formation in global climate models--important because of increased aerosol pollution that gives clouds more cooling power and affects precipitation.
"Moist air rises over warmer waters, leading to cloud formation and rainfall," he says.
This clear and well-illustrated guide to identifying what can be seen in the sky covers cloud classification, cloud formation, optical phenomena such as rainbows, color in the sky, visibility (mist/ fog/sea smoke), precipitation, winds, severe weather (oddly, hurricanes are included here only briefly, under tornados.
Through their research, the scientists were able to determine the composition of the spinach juice cloud and what factors influence cloud formation. They came up with a feasible way to reduce or to prevent clouding.
Cutting down the forests reduces the amount of water available for cloud formation and also warms the air.
The program succinctly and intelligibly explains to young viewers the fundamentals of cloud formation, the scientific principles of dew point and relative humidity, why rising warm air is essential to the formation of clouds, the relationship between relative humidity and temperature, and the different types of cloud formations and what weather is associated with each.
During the first night's speech I mentioned that the American Life League actually claims that Walt Disney's "The Lion King" contains the word "sex" floating by in a cloud formation. Incredibly, a Disney animator was in the crowd and at a reception afterwards assured me that Disney does not allow that kind of artistic license.
