In a double test for detecting occult blood a sensitive
guaiac test is combined with a quantitative immunological human haemoglobin test (Fecatwin-S/FECA-EIA)[13].
In this case, a
guaiac test was negative for occult gastrointestinal bleeding, and assessment of the rinse back indicated that the dialyzer appeared to rinse well.
They would much rather see patients follow American Cancer Society guidelines: For those over 40 years of age, an annual digital exam; for those over 50, add an annual stool
guaiac test plus sigmoidoscopy once a year for two years, then once every third year.
The positive
Guaiac test, decreases in vitamin [B.sub.12] levels (below 150 pg/mL) and folic acid (below 5 ng/mL), and low protein intake led the nephrology team to suspect occult blood loss, vitamin deficiency, and protein malnutrition.
Questions and answers: asymptomatic patient with positive stoll
