In Nov. 2004, my then-fiancée, now husband (date of marriage 6-25-05) purchased a home in his name for us to live in. I opted out of being on the house loan because my credit score was lower than his. I have contributed every month since from my paychecks to the mortgage. When my husband and I married, we opened a joint bank account from which our mortgage payments are now made. All of our incoming money is co-mingled, and we pay all of our bills, including the mortgage, from this account. My question is: Do I own the house I live in and contribute to, even partially - or is this considered separate property still unless he puts me on the house deed?
Answer
If you are now married and/or can prove you are paying, it normally will be part yours as well...These questions and answers are provided by WORLDLawDirect.com. ©2000 - 2007 by WORLDLawDirect.com, Inc.
