"For years, confusion has understandably existed among the Welsh public in distinguishing between the 'Welsh Assembly Government and the '
National Assembly for Wales'.
"We will legislate in the near future but, until then, the institution will continue to be known officially by its current statutory name, the
National Assembly for Wales, in order to avoid confusion and to minimise cost and disruption."
In 1999 I was elected to the
National Assembly for Wales and in May last year I had the honour of being elected as the first female Presiding Officer of the Assembly.
Pupils visited the Senedd this week where they met Julie Morgan, Assembly Member for Cardiff North, and Elin Jones AM, Llywydd of the
National Assembly for Wales, who asked the children about their priorities, which included the environment and the Welsh language.
Out of courtesy it is called the
National Assembly for Wales, but in strict reality there is no political or legal national entity called Wales.

THE
National Assembly for Wales is to launch an inquiry into the state of the media in Wales.
The company have received a processing and marketing grant from the
National Assembly for Wales and have been supported by the WDA's Mid Wales Division, tel:0168 661 3134, alongside Powys County Council and Mid Wales TEC.
