It was formed from the amalgamation of the National Crime Squad, the
National Criminal Intelligence Service, the section of HM Revenue and Customs which deals with drug trafficking and associated criminal finance and the element of the immigration department which deals with immigration crime.
Formerly part of the
National Criminal Intelligence Service in London, the unit was recently rehomed in Scotland.
Mr Bristow joined the force in April after a spell as director of the
National Criminal Intelligence Service, with responsibility for intelligence units across the UK.
It has 4,000 officers covering Britain, who will be based in 43 secret locations, and will incorporate the old National Crime Squads and
National Criminal Intelligence Service. It will also include functions of the immigration and customs agencies.

Harvey and Bradley's case was investigated by the London-based High-Tech Crime Unit, run by the National Crime Squad with support from police,
National Criminal Intelligence Service, military and Customs.
