These findings are difficult to reconcile with the consistent coexpression of CK7 and CK20 in the Paget cells in cases of PPD associated with rectal adenocarcinoma if one assumes that the rectal adenocarcinoma is the source of the Paget cells.
Although this cytokeratin profile matches that seen in the Paget cells in cases of PPD associated with a regional internal cancer, it does not appear to be a consistent finding in anal gland carcinoma.
