Although RPR is generally a nontreponemal test, we used a conventional manual ECOTEST-RPR test method while their method was the automated RPR test
, indicating that the automated one has reduced interpersonal differences and other confounders.
Blood samples collected from 100 patients with history and clinical manifestations suggestive of syphilis were subjected to standard tests, VDRL test, RPR and Micro-TPHA tests for evaluation of Micro-TPHA test in comparison with VDRL and RPR tests
. Analysis of the results of these tests are given below.
The RPR test
result was reactive at a dilution of 1:16, and a T pallidum particle agglutination confirmatory test result was reactive.
To contribute to the scant data on syphilis screening and prevalence in psychiatric patients, we aimed: (i) to determine and compare the prevalence of syphilis among different psychiatric inpatient groups; (ii) to determine and compare the psychiatric diagnoses of syphilis-infected and -uninfected patients; (iii) to assess self-reported high-risk sexual behaviour among patients; (iv) to establish the syphilis/HIV co-morbidity among patients; (v) and to investigate the performance of the non-treponemal RPR test
as a screening method compared with the confirmatory treponemal-specific TPHA test.
This report describes the results of that analysis, which indicated that among sera reactive on initial screening with a treponemal EIA/CIA, 56.7% had a nonreactive RPR test
. Among these discordant sera, 31.6% also were nonreactive by treponemal testing using Treponema pallidum particle agglutination (TP-PA) or fluorescent treponemal antibody absorbed (FTA-ABS) tests.
* Of all 116,822 specimens tested, 6% were reactive to a treponemal EIA test, of which 99% were then testing with the RPR test
. Further testing was not performed on the 94% of specimens initially non-reactive to the treponemal EIA test.
The EoPDH and RPR test
capabilities are available as upgrades on the Multi-Rate Module for the TS-30 and TS-170 chassis and on the TS-10 configuration.
In general, asymptomatic detainees are not required by law to submit to the RPR test
. The state has the right to compel a detainee to submit to this test only in cases in which the a detainee shows physical signs of having an STD, or if he or she reported to have had sexual contact with an individual known to have an STD.
