Most cases of follicular lymphomas that arise in adults are predominantly composed of small cleaved cells. More than 85% of cases contain a characteristic translocation, t(14;18)(q32;q21).[24] This translocation results in the overexpression of a structurally normal BCL-2 protein that inhibits apoptosis.
