National Assembly for Wales

a devolved council or parliament created by the Government of Wales Act 1998. It is chaired by a Presiding Officer, the equivalent of the Speaker of the House of Commons, who is responsible for the working of the Assembly and relations with the public. The equivalent of council leader is the First Secretary and the equivalent of council convenor or cabinet minister is Assembly Secretary. It has limited powers, mostly those transferred from the Welsh Office. It cannot act beyond its powers or its legislation may be struck down. It has no tax-raising powers.
