The set by Phillip Graneto takes the form of two ornamental heaps of metal debris on either side of the stage (like larval versions of the giant junk assemblages in Les Miserables), framing a hivelike back-projection screen that is used, as per Orwell's stage directions, to indicate the omnipresence of Big Brother, and also as a narrative convenience for prefilmed flashbacks.
