Under the measure, any public officer or employee who illegally enrich himself through the unlawful acquisition of properties shall be penalized with 12 years imprisonment or a fine not exceeding twice the amount of the property illegally acquired, or both, perpetual absolute disqualification from public office and confiscation or forfeiture in favor of the government of the unlawfully acquired properties.

The Centre has also decided to amend the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, by incorporating provisions for confiscation and forfeiture of property illegally acquired by corrupt public servants.
