Fashioned after similar news items that frequently appear in the Israeli press, the peace proposal contained an abbreviated version of the Arab Peace initiative first proposed in 2002 at the Beirut Summit of the Arab League by then Crown Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and reendorsed by the same leader, now King Abdullah, and the Arab League on several occasions, including at the Riyadh Summit in 2007.
The goal has been an Arab-Iranian objective since 1974, regularly reendorsed, and by now it has near-unanimous global support, at least formally.
